FineMark Sponsors a Teaching Garden

Students at Orangewood Elementary School in Fort Myers are creating an American Heart Association Teaching Garden as part of an educational initiative to help build healthy bodies and minds. The Plant Day Celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, at the school and will include a special Plant Day Ceremony with garden-themed activities, live entertainment by Orangewood students and guest appearances by visiting Lee County dignitaries and Lee County Public Schools officials.

Sponsored by FineMark National Bank & Trust, the Orangewood Teaching Garden is especially noteworthy because it is the FIRST American Heart Association Teaching Garden to be located in Lee County.

In another first, the Orangewood Teaching Garden is being created through a pilot program with Selovita, a non-profit Lee County aquaponic training, research and development center, and will feature cutting-edge gardening technology. Rather than raising their garden in a traditional soil setting, Orangewood Teaching Garden students will “feed” the fish that nurture and support the growth of their garden.
